If you’re a fan of drones or action cameras, you might want to keep your eyes on DJI in the coming months. According to DroneXL, DJI seems to be getting ready to release three new drones: the Mini 5 Pro, Avata 3, and Neo 2. Leaked images, video clips, and a new FCC filing point to these upcoming products. There’s also word of a new wearable action camera called the DJI Osmo Nano.
Here’s what you need to know about what’s possibly coming next from DJI.
Mini 5 Pro may feature better battery and longer range
DroneXL recently spotted an FCC filing for the upcoming DJI Mini 5 Pro. This model could see a huge improvement in battery life. Based on the filing, the Mini 5 Pro is expected to come with a 33.5Wh battery — a big step up from the Mini 4 Pro’s 18.9Wh. That extra power could help you fly longer without stopping to recharge.
Even more impressive is the range. According to DroneXL, the specs suggest the Mini 5 Pro may be able to transmit video from as far as 25 kilometres (about 15.5 miles) away—5 kilometres farther than the Mini 4 Pro. This would make it one of DJI’s farthest-reaching consumer drones, getting closer in performance to the DJI Mavic 4 Pro—a model that wasn’t meant to launch in the US but still ended up there.
The Mini 5 Pro is expected to launch in September. That gives drone fans a few months to prepare for what might be one of DJI’s best small drones yet.
Avata 3 and Neo 2 seen in new leaked video
Along with details about the Mini 5 Pro, DroneXL shared a video showing what appears to be prototypes of two more DJI drones. These are believed to be the Avata 3 and Neo 2. While the footage doesn’t show everything clearly, a few visible changes are worth noting.
The Avata 3, which would follow the current Avata 2, seems to have a different battery placement. The battery sits further back on the drone, and the camera up front looks larger. You might also notice the propellers — the Avata 3 seems to have four-blade propellers, while the Avata 2 had a three-blade setup. These changes suggest DJI may be focusing on improving balance and camera performance.
Next to the Avata 3 in the video is what DroneXL thinks is the Neo 2. While there’s not much to go on, the shape of the propeller guards seems different, which could mean a new design to improve flight safety or control.
DJI Osmo Nano may be a new wearable camera
Not only is DJI focusing on drones, but it also looks like a new action camera is in the works. A separate FCC filing points to the DJI Osmo Nano, a wearable camera that could become part of the Action series. DroneXL says this new camera may have a modular screen, similar to the design of the other DJI Action models.
Rumours about two more products—a DJI Mic 3 and an Osmo 360 camera—are spreading alongside the Osmo Nano. While no release dates have been suggested yet, DJI seems to have a lot in store for creators and tech fans alike.
With a busy few months ahead, DJI appears to be expanding its product range again. Whether you’re into flying drones or capturing action shots, these upcoming releases may offer exciting new options.
